Subscriber or Volunteer?

Action Network doesn’t distinguish between those who subscribe just to stay informed, and those who want to volunteer — everybody is an “activist”.  Our new subscriber process has two steps; in the first, we ask for first and last name, email address, and zip code, in the second we ask them to complete their profile.  The first step is the minimum information needed for Action Network to correctly identify their legislative representatives.  We automatically thank people who register and a bit later we follow up with a request for the profile information.

The profile information form adds street address, postal city, phone, and “yes” or “no” to the question ‘would you like to volunteer?’ (Note that postal city is not always the same as municipality/township.)

These are the profile field names [column headings on the spread sheet] :

If you want to identify who has volunteered, look for “Yes” in the Vol column.

New Subscriber Report

You can schedule reports to run automatically at a set interval. If you so request, Action Network will notify you when it has completed each new report so that you may download it.  Local county coordinators may want to see a list of new subscribers weekly so that they can welcome them.

New Subscriber Flow Chart

Here is what happens when a new person takes an action with us (joins, signs a petition, registers for an event, etc.).

Click on the diagram to see it full size.  The subscriber gets a welcome message right away.  A day later their data is added to the county group list for their county.   At that time it will show on a new subscriber report if one is run. A couple of weeks later a third email will follow up for profile information.  All of this is automated at the statewide level using “Ladders” logic.
