On Tuesday 4/30/19 Action Network released much improved tools for designing emails…
We have a big update for you today!
Drag and Drop Email Builder
There’s a new way to write email on Action Network — a drag and drop email builder!
With the drag and drop editor, you can quickly and easily create complex email layouts such as newsletters, two column designs, and more that are mobile-ready and work in all email readers, all without any code! To use it, just flip to the drag and drop editor mode on the email writing page. (The standard visual editor is still around of course, and you can choose which mode you want to use by default in your account’s settings, in the upper right menu when logged in.)
The drag and drop editor comes with a new way to create email wrappers for the editor, called email layouts. Layouts are more like templates, so for example you can create a layout with your logo up top, a section with sample content in a newsletter style layout, and a footer. That layout can be loaded into the editor when writing an email allowing you to enter in content for the newsletter but keep the header and footer and overall design the same. These can be accessed in the email wrappers and layouts section of the Start Organizing menu.
We’re very excited about this new editor mode and the designs it will help you create easily, with no coding. Documentation is available here, and we’ll be rolling out additional support documents in the coming weeks. We’re also hosting a training at the end of the month to intro folks to the new feature. Sign up below to attend!

In the meantime, if you see issues with the editor, please reply to this email or reach out to us at support@actionnetwork.org and let us know!
Ladder Randomization
There is now a new step type available when creating ladders — a randomizer! You can use this step type to randomly send activists down one of two paths in your ladder, to test out different email content or other ladder steps.
The “weight” between each path can be adjusted to send activists down each path evenly (50% / 50% split) or not (75% / 25%). For example, you can use this to test more than two paths. If you had three you wanted to test, you’d set up a randomizer step that split activists 66% / 33%, then on the 66% path, have another randomizer step to split 50% / 50%, getting you an even three way split. When you’re ready to choose a “winning” path and end your test, just edit your ladder and set the slider to 100% / 0% to send activists down the winning path every time.
We also have a few other odds and ends:
You can edit the headline and sub-headline on thank you pages, allowing you to edit our “Thanks for signing!” text on any action.
Ladders that subscribe activists now show up as actions in email and report targeting, allowing you to target activists who were subscribed to a group because of a specific ladder.
In a network, you can target by specific child group email received, opened, or clicked by choosing child group emails out of the dropdown lists, just like you can for child actions.
Events and ticketed events now display the day of the week.
Added sponsors and additional sponsors to the event campaign event report download, and city, state, country, sponsors, and additional sponsors to the event campaign event’s list on its manage page. (Thanks to 350.org for that one!)
As usual, if you have questions, find a bug, or have a suggestion, please reply back and let me know! And, if you know of others who should be receiving these updates, they can sign up here.
Thanks!
