When you joined FDPA you got a welcome email almost immediately. It probably asked you to invite others to participate with you. In less than a week you received another email asking you to share your address information so that FDPA could identify your representatives. Simultaneously, your email was added to your local county’s list, and to the cluster of counties that forms your region.
All of these actions are automated in out Action Network system using a tool called “Ladders”. This post provides a description of the sequences of steps as a flowchart.

When a person subscribes, three separate processes are triggered. The first ladder immediately sends the welcome email (see PDF below). The second ladder adds the subscriber core information to the appropriate regional and county lists, if there is sufficient information. The third ladder checks to see if the “Address” field is filled in, and if not, it waits five days and sends an email requesting a full address. After waiting 14 days this third ladder checks to see if a profile form was submitted. If not, a second email request is sent.
A fourth ladder, not shown on the flow chart, is triggered by subscribers who complete the profile form. It assigns those subscribers to the correct county list.
The PDF embedded below provides copies of the emails sent to subscribers and
